    WEEK OF MAY 4, 2020

Hi Dragons and happy May! It has been so great to see so many faces at book talks and book clubs this week! I have been compiling book recommendations in Schoology in case you can’t make it on Tuesdays at 3 pm. Each week I’ll post some new recommendations from myself and other students.
    For grades 1-3:
    • Battle of the Books is underway in Schoology. Watch the read-aloud videos and vote on your favorite. I will post the first 9 battles by the end of the week.
    • Check out the nominations for next years OTTER and SASQUATCH awards
    For grades 4-5:
    • If you are looking for some Young Adult audiobooks, check out Sync Audiobooks. This is a free summer audiobook program for teens 13+, though I know many Cascadia students are already reading YA titles.
    • Next year’s award books have been posted and it’s never too early to start reading. Remember, if you read any 12 books from these lists by the spring you will earn a root beer float from Mrs. Bodmer SASQUATCH and YOUNG READER’S CHOICE (junior list)
    Optional Fun for All Grades:
    • May is Jewish History Month and the teachers and staff at Cascadia would love to celebrate those in our community that identify as Jewish. A portion of a May community meeting video will be dedicated to learning about Judaism and the history of its religion and people. We would love to see a short clip from as many families as possible, sharing with us what it means to you and your family to be Jewish. This can be as simple as a sentence or two from the kids, showcasing an important family artifact, teaching us a Hebrew phrase or religious tradition, or anything else you can think of! If your family is Jewish and you are interested in participating, please email Ms. Bodmer at msbodmer@seattleschools.org. Thank you and stay safe!"
    • Join me for some book talks! I’ll share some books and I would love to hear from each of you as well. Come prepared with a book to share or just listen to what others recommend. Tuesday at 3pm on Microsoft Teams Book Talks
    • #WhereIRead is a picture slideshow I have posted in Schoology. Please email me a picture of yourself reading and I’ll add it to the slideshow. It’s so much fun to see your faces!
